The Life of Amerie

Amerie Mi Marie Nicholson is an African American-Korean, song-writer. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to her mother who was named Mi Suk Rogers, and her father who was named Charles Rodgers. In her early life she performed and won talent contests. She attended Georgetown University and graduated with a degree in English and Fine Arts. Amerie started to make the music style go-go more known. Artists such as Beyoncé were inspired by her and started making go-go type songs.

All I Have



In the years of 2001-2003, the album “All I Have” first came to life. On July 30, 2002 Amerie released her first studio album called “All I Have” including hits such as “Got to Be There” and “Can’t Let Go”. She recorded the chorus for the single “Rule” performed by Nas. In 2003 she was awarded the "Soul Train Music Award for Best New Artist". For this album. The second and final single from “All I Have” was "Talkin' to Me", a top 20 entry on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, although it peaked outside the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.”




Touch

Amerie started to gain more attention in her first acting role in the 2004 film called “First Daughter.” On April 26, 2005, she released an album “Touch” peaking number five on the Billboard 200, selling 124,00 copies in its first week. The album “Touch” was certified gold by the RIAA in August 2005. The single “Touch” peaked at #95 on the “Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart


Because I Love It

In 2006, Amerie released her 3rd album “Because I Love It”. This was the first album in all of her singing career to not feature production and writing from her collaborator Rich Harrison. This album was based off of the 80’s music period.
