Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on December 10th. On this day, the United Nation General assembly adopted the celebration of this special day in 1948, the Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR). This announces that inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being- regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. This day includes addressing different forms of discriminating such as women and girls, LGBTQ, people with disabilities and so forth. We are all beautiful and should celebrate who we are.
From country to country, sometimes a theme is chosen to focus on during Human Rights Day. In 2014 there became a new meaning for human rights day: “Every Day is Human Rights Day”. In addition to 2016 “Stand up for Someone's Rights Today”. The 2021 Theme is: EQUALITY - Reducing inequalities, advancing Human Rights”.
UDHR hosted an online conversation talking about human rights with the high commissioners in Geneva. The UNIC got together with people all around the world to celebrate everyone and who they are. In Costa Rica, amazing indigenous women expressed themselves through their music. In Southeast Asia, UNIC made a digital campaign "Raise Every Voice for Equality” that raised everyone's voices. There were so many more activities where people showed their support. We should remember our rights every day but especially on December 10.
