You might’ve seen that round cake at your local Walmart saying “Three Kings Day Ring Cake.” Have you ever wondered what Three Kings Day is? Well in many countries, especially in Latin-American countries, this holiday is celebrated.
The Epiphany, or better known as Three Kings Day, is traditionally celebrated on January 6th. The Three Kings celebrated in this holiday are known as Melchior, Caspar, and Balthasar. According to The Bible, Magi (the three Kings) from the east went to Bethlehem using a star as their guide in search of Jesus who had just been born. There they gave him three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
One of the most popular traditions of this Holiday is the Three Kings Day Ring. It’s a cake shaped in a circle to represent a King’s crown. Inside of some of the pieces, there is a little plastic Baby Jesus figurine. Whoever gets the baby has to host an upcoming party known as Candlemas day.
Fun Facts:
The Three Kings weren’t Kings, they were astrologers which explains why they were guided by a star
It could’ve been more than three Kings
Children especially in Puerto Rico and Spain receive their presents on January 6th and not on Christmas
